MSF is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation which delivers emergency medical aid to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters or exclusion from health care.

How your YouGov donation will help

Ready-to-use therapeutic food

Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) can cure up to 90% of children with uncomplicated malnutrition. Malnutrition leads to weak immune systems, opening the door for deadly illnesses like malaria, pneumonia and measles. Impaired growth and brain damage is possible. Most of the damage is done before a child reaches the age of two. With your help, MSF can use RUTF to save lives by providing the essential vitamins, minerals, fat and proteins children need to survive and grow properly. Formulated in a peanut-milk paste that children find tasty and easy to eat, RUTF helps mothers provide nourishment for their children.

Potentially debilitating, deadly and highly contagious, measles is especially dangerous in displacement camps and crowded, impoverished areas. Measles mostly strikes children under the age of five. Symptoms can include fever, skin rash that can lead to complications like ear infections, pneumonia and impaired mental development. In many areas where MSF works, children do not routinely receive vaccinations for measles. Measles vaccinations are a key part of MSF’s preventive health measures for children. The vaccine itself is inexpensive and effective for 85% of children who receive it. Measles vaccination campaigns are often carried out for hundreds or thousands of children at once as a preventive health measure.

Cholera Kit

The Greek word for diarrhea, cholera is a water-borne, acute bacterial infection of the stomach and intestines that’s spread by contaminated water or food. It’s closely linked to places where sanitation is poor or clean water isn’t available: urban slums, camps for displaced people and disaster sites. If left untreated, cholera can kill within hours. You can work with MSF to respond quickly to cholera outbreaks by providing all the necessary materials to treat people infected with the illness and to stop its spread. Our cholera kits contain enough medicines, rehydration salts, IVs and other related supplies to treat 625 patients as well as buckets, boots, chlorine and plastic sheeting to keep clinics clean and the bacteria contained.

When there are no medical facilities or when healthcare systems are in shambles because of conflict or natural disaster, you can help save lives by providing emergency medical supplies to treat 10,000 people for three months with one kit. Kits are designed to maximize patient care with limited staff. They include basic supplies – such as oral and topical medicines – that can be used by MSF primary healthcare workers. Emergency Health Kits have been used extensively in places such as Democratic Republic of Congo, Colombia and Darfur where there are thousands of displaced families in remote areas and no medical structures.
